This is on  (Biren Maharaj) Reverd Swami Vedatmananda ji whose record as the most long-lived monk of the Ramakrishna Mission still stands.

Reverd Swami Vedatmanandaji (Biren Maharaj) passed away on 23 July 2008 at 1.25 am at Seva Pratishthan hospital in Kolkata. He was 104. He enjoyed extraordinarily good health till the last few months of his life. Initiated by Swami Saradanandaji, a monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, he joined the Order at Dhaka centre in 1928 and had Sannyasa from Swami Vijnananandaji (a monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna) in 1937. He also had the good fortune to have the holy company of several other monastic disciples of Sri Ramakrishna. Besides his joining centre, he served at Jamshedpur, Rajkot, Deoghar and Varanasi Advaita Ashrama. He was the head of Malda centre for about one year. He had been leading a retired life for the last 30 years, during which period he stayed at Varanasi Home of Service, Balaram Mandir and Belur Math. He was always self-reliant and cheerful and remained so till the last days despite his advanced age.
