Swami Shashidharananda ji (Swaraj Maharaj) passed away in sleep on 9 January at 9.15 pm at Varanasi Home of Service. He was 77 and had been suffering from various old-age ailments for some time. Initiated by Swami Madhavanandaji, he joined the Order in 1959 at Asansol centre and had Sannyasa from Swami Vireshwaranandaji in 1969. Besides his joining centre, he served at Ranchi Sanatorium, Ramharipur, Purulia, Puri Math, Jalpaiguri and Varanasi (Sevashrama) centres. The Swami was simple and austere by nature.
